Your Phone – Reliable information about yourphone.exe

Did you notice yourphone.exe in Task Manager? I discovered the Your Phone process a few months ago and decided to gain more knowledge about it. I organized and enumerated the most relevant information in this article.

Therefore, below you will only find info from a Windows perspective. I’ll explain what yourphone.exe does, how to stop or uninstall and whether it’s a virus (spoiler: it’s NOT) or a CPU guzzler (spoiler: neither)

This article does not cover the functionality of the Your Phone app. You can find that information in my other article Your Phone – The complete guide.

There’s no selling trick on this site, persuading you to install an antivirus or do dubious system scans. So, if you’re interested in objective information: Let’s get started! :-)

What is Your Phone?

The Your Phone app enables you to connect to your iOS iPhone or Android phone with your Windows 10 device. Depending on what kind of smartphone you have, it allows you to:

  • Link your phone and PC to unlock a variety of cross-device experiences. (Android and iPhone)
  • See recent photos from your phone on your PC. (Android only)
  • View and send text messages from your PC. (Android only)
  • Answer phone calls
  • Play and control music
  • Screen mirroring (Android only)

I’m pretty enthusiastic about the functionality this free app offers.

Keep in mind this app is a Universal Windows Platform App (UWP) that is only available for Windows 10 and Xbox. It is not available and does not run on Windows 7 or Windows 8.

No. There’s no need. Your Phone (and it’s related process yourphone.exe) is not a virus, malware or bloatware. In addition, it consumes very little system resources. If you really want to get more performance out of your pc, there are better ways to increase your Windows 10 performance.

Also, if you share your computer with other people, there’s a good possibility someone else does use Your Phone because of the nice benefits it offers. If you uninstall the app, settings and personal data may be lost.

So, no: save your time :) But if you really, really want to, read the next paragraph. :)
