Disable system beeps in VMWare Workstation

After installing Windows Server 2008 (Longhorn) on a Virtual Machine, a system beep kept annoying me. The beep occurred with every system event.
There are two possibilities: turn it off for one session, or turn it off for good.
To turn it off for only one session, do the following:

SYSTEM process takes high CPU on server in VMWARE
Written by Christian on March 18, 2008 – 8:21 amAfter upgrading to VMWARE 3.5 and VirtualCenter 2.5, the SYSTEM proces on our File server had an high CPU load (100%). This especially occurred when we were copying files from the file server. Killing the SYSTEM proces did not result in a lower CPU load.

Snaphunter: overview of your snapshots

On xtravirt.com you can download SnapHunter. SnapHunter is an ESX3 Service Console utility which can report back on the Snapshot status of VM’s from multiple ESX Servers. It has the following features:
- identify VM’s which contain snapshots
- show size, date and name of snapshot
- optionally commit snapshots

Howto: Recreate VMDK files

On ESX3, your VM has one or more VMDK files (extension .vmdk) and one or more flat vmdk files (last characters flat.vmdk )

Upgrading Hardware and VMware Tools in Multiple Virtual Machines

When upgrading from VMWare ESX server 2.x to 3.x, you have to upgrade the VMWare Tools and virtual hardware for each virtual machine manually. With Virtual Center Server, you can upgrade all managed VM’s at once with a command line tool. This article describes the command and possible parameters for vmware-vmupgrade.exe
