I have had this same problem but with one difference: I run XP64 and the problem started when I updated to SP2. XP 64 does not have a SP3 available.

Would anyone know if my problem wuld this be the same issue?

Just because Automatic Updates can’t deploy it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t offer a patch. Microsoft are some proper w4nkers for forcing others to do their work for them. Last time I checked, their software wasn’t open source! >:(

Hello,

When trying to put my laptop in to standby or hibernate, lately, I get eht following message:

The service ‘Microsoft .Net Framework v.1.0.3705 Update’ is preventing the machine from entering standby. Try stopping this service and try again.

Now I can only shut down my machine. Please help. What do I do to make Standby and Hibernate work again?

Great fix! Unfortunately I have to do this everytime I try to update something. It doesn’t fix things once and for all. :/
