Recover hard deleted items in Outlook

When you have hard deleted emails or appointments from Outlook, you can recover them with the dumpster. By default, the dumpster is activated only in your “Deleted items” folder. This means that, when you go to your “Deleted items” folder, and you delete an email that is in that specific folder, you can recover it with the dumpster. The dumpster is accessible by clicking Tools -> Deleted Items Recovery.
When you have deleted an email from your “Inbox” with SHIFT-DELETE (permanently delete, without going to the “Deleted items” folder first), you can recover that mail by doing the following steps:
- Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
- Locate and click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\ Client\Options - On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: DumpsterAlwaysOn
Data type: DWORD
Value data: 1 - Quit Registry Editor.
- Restart Outlook, go to the folder where you deleted the item, and then go to Tools -> Deleted Items Recovery
